Stock Odoo's currency rates are static after the install demo unless someone remembers to update them. For Canadian SMBs invoicing in CAD but buying in USD/EUR, that means a quarter-end of "wait, this margin is wrong because the rate is six weeks old". Lynx Currency Exchange wires res.currency to ExchangeRate-API with hourly or daily sync, tracks API quota usage, and lets purchase / sale orders override the rate manually when an old contract pegs a specific value.
Key Features
Configurable rate provider — currency.rate.provider carries API key, base currency, sync interval (hours or days), and per-month call quota; one provider per company supports multi-entity setups.
Manual + scheduled sync — action_update_rates runs on demand; action_update_cron_schedule rewrites the cron interval whenever the provider config changes so admins don't manage two settings.
Quota tracking — current_month_calls and usage_percentage surface API consumption so admins see when they're approaching the free 1,500/month ceiling before requests start failing.
Per-order rate override — purchase.order and sale.order add currency_rate_override and currency_rate_date; an effective_currency_rate computed field picks the override or falls back to the live rate of record.
Connection test — action_test_connection validates the API key and base currency without consuming a real rate-update call.
